A surprise from hubby

Good morning!  I hope your day is lovely! Outside my window it is a rather dreary day...it is pouring rain and grey, but as always if there's some stitching or crafting of some sort to do...it's all good.

My son is recovering well from his wisdom teeth surgery, in fact he is going to try a half day of school today..he is a real trooper. Thank you for all your well wishes! The rest of us are back to great health, my sore throat came and went, thank goodness!

Truth be told I have NEVER been much of a cross stitcher, I have always gravitated to free hand embroidery, but lately I have been drawn to it.
I have been gabbing on and on to my husband about the wonderful world of blogging (he doesn't get it) and I guess he was listening because yesterday he told me he ordered a book for me that is out of print...it should come any day now.
BOY was I surprised!!

Have you seen this book? Do you have it in your collection? What other cross stitch resources do you use?

And for embroiderers out there...where do you get your inspiration?
As a newish cross stitcher I am really looking forward to my book arriving...hubby gets bonus points for this move! :)

BUT don't you worry I will never give up my first love...I am currently working on an embroidery piece...should be finished in a couple of days and I will photograph it then. It is a small gift for one of my sisters in law.
I am also working on a sewing project...Slippers...I am making myself some cozy slippers and if I get them right, then I will be stuffing a pair in everyones Christmas stocking this year.

What are you working on this week?

Keep Crafty!

  1. Oh I can't wait to see the slippers, as I could do with making myself a pair to leave at dd house.

    1. Hi Gill!
The slipper making isn't going as smoothly as I envisioned it, I threw them into my semi done pile and will have to get the courage to get back to them one of these days...will keep you posted once I figured it out.
I am sure there is an easy way to do it. I am just a bit stubborn and like to figure it out on my own :)

Once I get it, I will make many pairs!
      Have a great day,

  2. I don't cross-stitch too often, as I generally prefer the flexibility of embroidery . . . BUT I do get a hankering to work some cross-stitch every so often.

The Cross Stitch pool at Flickr is chock full of inspiration: http://www.flickr.com/groups/cross-stitch/. There's a nice mix of more traditional stuff and newer, sassier stuff. Same is true of the "Embroidery" pool.

Blog rolls on other people's blogs are also a favorite way to find cross-stitch and embroidery inspiration.

How are you making the slippers? Knitting, crocheting, felting . . . ?

    2. LOL...Yes Glenda I am sewing them, however they weren't going 'sew' well yesterday so they are in my semi done pile...I will go back to it once I have cooled off :)

  3. I can't wait to see your slippers! I am now following your blog and would love for you to stop by and say hi sometime. You brought up precious memories of learning and adoring cross stitching. I haven't done this in years, but I do remember how relaxing and fun it was as I sat each time with my bowl of popcorn! Thanks for bringing back a fond memory! xo's Pam

    1. Hi Clare,
I like searching for ideas online but find I get easily sucked into the vortex of the internet and time escapes me!
So I prefer to have books, charts on file so I don't have to go anywhere near the computer :)
      Thank you for your comment

    2. I know that one. I have found if I leave my computer turned off . . . I get much more done.

  5. Slippers nice, can't wait to see those when they are finished. Of course you know I am a huge fan of cross stitch and have been doing it for years, I love the idea of a 2 hour cross stitch book, I'd would like to get my hands on that one...very thoughtful of the hubby!
Glad everyone is on the mend at home :-)

  6. Hi. Thanks for dropping by my blog. I don't have this particular book at home , but do have lots of others, and even more magazines that I really need to sort through and get rid of some.
